Lemon (2/2)

MFA thesis project cateloguing the history of two totemic objects across centuries of still life.

According to Baudelaire, objects fall into two categories: eternal (organic) and transitory (contextual). Eternal objects are symbolic and considered eternal because their forms have never changed (fruits, flowers, animals, etc.) In still life, the most widely represented, enduring example of an eternal object is the lemon.
